Connecting to WUFI-S at Washington University
Announcement: New WUFI and WUFI-S Wireless Networks
Washington University selected Meru Networks as the provider for the next generation wireless network in Summer 2006. The campus wireless network is now in a transition from the legacy Bluesocket WLAN network to the new Meru WUFI network. Although the two networks will coexist for some time, the School of Business has replaced all of its access points, moving completely to the WUFI network. During spring semester 2007, additional access points will be installed with the goal of providing ubiquitous wireless coverage in Simon Hall. Knight Center coverage will be similarly expanded.
Why Meru Networks?
Meru Networks was selected because their system provided some unique capabilities, such as:
Higher Capacity: 1 Access Point = 100 UsersFaster Connections: Users with high-speed 802.11g wireless aren't slowed down by people with older 802.11b equipment
Easy Deployment: Meru uses a single channel which eliminates interference issues and simplifies locating access points.
